Graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Szczecin. Postgraduate studies in social welfare at the Mickiewicz University in Poznań. In 2006, he was appointed deputy mayor and was responsible for social affairs and city budget. In April 2017, he ran for mayor for the first time, while in 2024 re-elected mayor of Stargard, achieving highest result – 84.51%.

Jan Lindenau has been the directly elected mayor of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck and President of the Union of Cities THE HANSA since 2018. Mr Lindenau is a qualified banker and worked for over 20 years at a major bank in Lübeck. In 2011, he was elected to the Lübeck City Parliament, where he served until 2018.

At Guildhall Theatre, the oldest in the UK, based in King’s Lynn, a Hanseatic Town, he celebrates his love for Shakespeare through unique storytelling, production and performances. He’s presented BBC docs, hosted at the World Economic Forum, and blends history and comedy with global shows. Recent Film credits include Wonka and Paddington 2.
